Prof Caroline Gargett

Professor Caroline Gargett is a NHMRC Leadership Fellow at Hudson Institute of Medical Research Adjunct Professor, Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Monash University, and a Fellow of the SRB. She discovered and characterised endometrial stem/progenitor cells in human, mouse and sheep, investigating their role in endometriosis aetiology and pioneering the development of bioengineering approaches for treating and preventing pelvic organ prolapse. International recognition of her research includes the US$1M Magee Prize (co-recipient) to identify human Vaginal Stem Cells (2021), Society for Reproductive Investigation President’s Achievement Award (2013) and Endometriosis Foundation of America Honoree (2013). Directorships include the National Stem Cell Foundation of Australia and Stem Cells Limited. She is a Scientific Advisory Board member of the Endometriosis Foundation of America, Fondation Pour la Recherche sur Endometriose and Julia Argyrou Endometriosis Centre Epworth. She was Secretary of SRB (2005-2007) and President of the Australasian Society for Stem Cell Research (2013-2014).
